Hot for who?

Many of us are passionate, but for whom do you burn? Here are two scriptures from the Bible that convey my message.

“They are all hot like an oven And they have devoured their judges All their kings have fallen None among them calls upon me” Hosea chapter 7:7. God said in Revelations 3:15-16, “I know your works that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were hot or cold. 16) So then because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I will vomit you out of my mouth. “For our God is a consuming fire” Hebrews 12:29. If we have the Lord within us, we will be ignited for Him. Not the kind of fire that consumes, but rather the kind that purifies our lives and eliminates the unnecessary.

In the book of Hosea, it is mentioned that God spoke to Hosea and he prophesied against God's people who had become obsessed with idols and hence, had defiled themselves. However, God's word also instructs us to be 'hot'. This might lead us to question if different types of fires burn within individuals. The answer is yes. The first type of fire is the one that burns within the hearts of God's people, making them passionate about God. The second type of fire is the one that burns within those who are passionate about the works of the devil.
In the times of Hosea, God warned His people that destruction would come upon them because they had turned away from Him. This serves as a reminder to all of us. If we feel a burning passion within us, we should make sure that it is of God, and that He is dwelling within us. The fire of God can be kindled within us through prayer and by studying the word of God. Let us strive to keep the fire burning and not let it die down. Hallelujah!
