Our Light And Life.

The title was inspired by a young girl curious about how life came about. She asked questions and was told that God created the Universe and everything that exists today. She was a little satisfied but still had some questions. Questions no one could answer. She began to read books and landed on a book by a man named John. This John wrote on how everything that was made came about. In his explanation, there was a Word and by that Word, everything that was made came into existence. So there is the distinction between created things and the Creator.

The Word Is God.

John explains that before anything was made(in the beginning), the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

In this passage, we see more than One Person mentioned as One was with God.

Was The Word Made or Created?

This is a question I want us to ponder. John 1:2,

He was in the beginning with God.

The Word was in the beginning with God.  This will bring us to a point later on in the text.

Every Created Thing Was Made By The Word.

John 1:3,

All things were made through Him, and without Him, nothing was made that was made.

If the Word is the Creator of all made things, then the Creator was not made.  This is thought-provoking. Is the Word God? Yes. The Creator is God. This helps us to understand that God is in the Person of the Word and the Person of The Father(who the Word was with). God is One but manifests Himself in 3 Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Source Of Our Life And Light.

  1. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
This answers the question: Where does life(in this Universe) originate from? The Word is not only the giver of Life but the Redeemer of the life mankind lost after taking the path of sin in the early days of the human race.
The Word is the giver of eternal life. Let's find out who this word is. John 1:10-12:

He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

and John writes about this redemption power in John 3:16,

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

These two scriptures point to the Person of Jesus Christ. The life He gives is free and necessary to every human soul because the penalty for sin is death. We cannot pay for our own sins and still live eternally. I appeal to you if you haven't yet done so to cry out to God in repentance and receive Jesus into your life because He is the One who can save us.
