Confronting the Wickedness of Lynching

"Embracing Divine Light: "God's Unconditional Love, Even in the Darkest Hours of Injustice"

The love of many has grown cold.

Yesterday, I was in a library on campus when, not too far from me, a man was being brutally beaten to death for stealing a phone. Around 30 men gathered around him and showed no mercy. I was unaware of this incident until I returned to my hostel. Upon hearing about it, I couldn't help but wonder how some people could reach such levels of wickedness. How could individuals willingly allow themselves to be used by the devil to the point where they no longer feel compassion for the person they are killing? The words of God in Matthew 24:12 are relevant: "And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold." Those who perpetrate acts of wickedness towards their fellow human beings often fail to empathize with them, as the Bible states in Matthew 7:12, "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them."

Nobody is perfect, so we should refrain from judging others.

The reason why the word of God instructs us not to judge is that those who pass judgment or administer instant injustice are not without their own flaws. Let's set aside all other sins and focus on theft. In one way or another, both known to themselves and God, they may have engaged in theft before. It may not have been a phone, but perhaps something minor and unnoticed by others, although God sees everything. In God's eyes, these individuals are at an even greater risk, as Matthew 7:1-2 states, "Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you." Imagine the Lord judging them with the same measure they have used to judge His creation. The saddest part is that they take lives, yet they cannot create even a single strand of hair on a human's head.

God's love extends to all, even the worst sinners.

Instances in the Bible where Jesus demonstrated His love for those whom others were ready to kill prove that if God loves them, then who are these 'seemingly sinless killers' to take lives? In John 8, a story is narrated about an adulterous woman who was brought to Jesus by those who were prepared to stone her, seeking His opinion on the matter. In verse 7, the Word of God says, "And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, 'Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.'" Slowly, they dropped their stones and walked away. Jesus then spoke to the woman and said, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" She replied, "No one, Lord." Then Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more."

God alone can save us from eternal judgment.

The Bible tells us in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." God's Son, Jesus, is the greatest gift to mankind. Through His sacrifice, our sins were paid for by His blood. He died for us so that we could be redeemed unto God. That is why God's word states, "...that whoever believes in him shall not perish." The consequence of not believing in Jesus and fully surrendering to Him as the King and Savior of our lives is greater than what any human mind can comprehend. Jesus describes it in Mark 9:47-48: "And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, 'where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.'"

Give your life to Jesus now.

I encourage everyone reading this to surrender the steering wheel of your life to Jesus. If you are ready, please say this prayer: "Dear Jesus, I thank You for coming to die for my sins. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. I surrender myself completely to You. Please forgive my sins and come to live in my life. Be my Lord and Savior, and help me live a life that pleases the Lord always, in Jesus' name, Amen." God bless you. If you sincerely prayed this prayer, you are now a child of God. I urge you to spend time with Jesus because time spent with Him in the Word and in prayer is an investment that will bring eternal profit.
